There are lots of good text editors for Unix OS's, but how about Windows?

If you want a good text editor for Windows you may want to look at "Dark Room". It's a no frills text editor that has the look and feel of a good old fashioned linux terminal screen. It removes all of the distractions and keeps you focused on the important things like actually writing good content.

Anybody catch this yesterday? Gmail announced a new tool on March 31st that went live today.

If you login to your gmail account today you'll see "New Feature; GMail Custom Time".

The new feature allow you to to adjust the time of any email you send to the past. The email appears in the proper chronological order in your recipient's inbox.

According to google it works by "utilizing an e-flux capacitor" to resolve issues of causality (see Grandfather Paradox).

Gizmodo is reporting that Apple's recent iPhone firmware update has been hacked. This comes after the most recent hack allowing the iphone to be unlocked and used on different carrier networks (called jailbreaking).

This hack is not considered a "jailbreak" hack, but rather a complete hack that allows you to run _any_ app and use _any_ compatible carrier you want in the world.

A survey from Symantec and Applied Research-West reported by Baseline show that younger workers (those born after 1980) pose a greater risk to corporate networks because of their tendency to want to run almost any device and install almost any software on their work machines.

Maryland is looking to pass a law that would make surfing the Internet on someone else's wireless connection, without permission, a crime under a bill sponsored by LeRoy E. Myers Jr.

He told the House Judiciary Committee that one of his neighbors, after buying a new laptop computer, got onto the Internet, thinking it was going through his own cable connection when in reality he was logged in to Myers' home Internet hookup.

The iPhone may have put the nail in the coffin for motorola's cell phone business. Motorola hasn't come out with a cutting edge phone since the introduction of the Razr a few years back. Since then we've seen Apple, Nokia, and LG start taking a lot of market share from motorola.

The cell phone business is a difficult one to compete in. It has almost become a commodity business on the low end. Profit margins are really shrinking and making money in the high end market is difficult.

If you ever want to carry a functional linux distribution around on your keychain you may want to look at "Damn Small Linux" (DSL).

DSL was originally developed as an experiment to see how many usable desktop applications could fit inside a 50MB. It has since evolved to be a complete desktop system.

Some advantages of DSL include:
1) The ability to boot of USB or CD
2) Ability to boot DSL from within Windows or other OS's.
3) DSL can also transform into a full Debian install using a traditional hard drive.

I came across an article from Microsoft a few weeks back that claimed setting a blank password is more secure than setting simple passwords that most users choose.

I came across this interesting presentation by Randy Bush concerning the transition of IPv6 from IPv4. It paints a gloomy picture and addresses some of the challenges and issues with migrating the world over to IPv6.

A group at Princeton University has discovered a way to steal keys from memory even after a computer has been shutdown. The technique described here involves freezing a computer memory chip using quick blasts from an air can. This enabled the researchers access to the chips contents allowing it to obtain keys that could be used to decrypt data on a users hard drive.

I came across a service called Twitter a few months back. At first I brushed it off thinking it was probably a fad that would slowly fade away. But after looking at it a bit more closely I think that this idea may have legs especially in a society where information overload has caused our attention spans to shrink.

Twitter is in a category called "microblogging". What is Microblogging? Basically it gives you the ability to send very short (less than 140 characters) messages to family, friends, co-workers, or other people in your network.
