There are lots of good text editors for Unix OS's, but how about Windows? If you want a good text editor for Windows you may want to look at "Dark Room". It's a no frills text editor that has the look and feel of a good old fashioned linux terminal screen. It removes all of the distractions and keeps you focused on the important things like actually writing good content. DarkRoom is actually based on the proprietary WriteRoom, a word processor for Apple’s OS X. There’s also a Java version of DarkRoom if you don’t want use Microsoft’s .Net framework. Another great editor for windows, geared more toward the programmer types, is called editplus. It has all of the features required for hard core programmers, but is light enough and easy enough to use for the casual non-programmer type. You can download it as shareware. One more that I just started using recently that I'm really becoming fond of is notepad++. This is notepad on steroids. It includes some really nice additional features: Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding A couple of honorable mentions: I'm sure there are other good text editors out there that maybe others could comment on?
