Playing Video Games Can Help Get You a Job116

Playing video games builds the skills needed to succeed in life and work according to the book authored by John Beck and Mitchell Wade "The Kids are Alright: How the Gamer Generation Is Changing the Workplace". They go on to say that playing games can help people be more sociable, develop strategic thinking, and become better leaders. Wade and Beck survey asked questions to find out whether the experience of gaming, and growing up surrounded by games, changes attitudes, expectations, and abilities related to business, "the answer is a resounding yes," they say. Who would have thought... I guess all that time I spent in front of my game console was not a waste of time? I still find this study hard to believe. I guess it really must depend on the type of game you're actually playing. I can't see much value from playing game like Grand Auto Theft III, or Mortal Combat. Not sure how that develops your social or leadership skills. On the other hand I could see some value if you're playing some other type simulation games based on real world scenarios. It has been common practice for aviation or military groups to practice simulations on what are really high end computer games. I think it is a stretch to generalize and say many types of computer games provide for an opportunity to improve social and leadership skill.
