Unison Develops Linux Based Alternative to Microsoft Exchange112
vote
Unison announced at CeBit that it has launched what it claims is the best Linux based communications suite available. It combines IP telephony, e-mail, instant messaging, address book, capable of running on a single Linux server. It is available free as a public beta. Unison claims that it is the first to combine all of the features into one package all running on a single linux server. Competitors, like Microsoft's Office Communications Server (OCS), can require three or more servers to do the same thing. The server software works with a Windows client and it is a clear attempt to take away market share from Microsoft Exchange. Unison is aimed at 20 to 300 seat organizations initially. Future releases will support much larger installations. Pricing for larger corporate installs has not been set. Unison plans to offer a free version for up to 20 users once the beta program is complete. The beta version should be available for download as of March 4th 2008. As of today I have not been able to find a site where I can download and evaluate this tool. I'll keep you posted as soon as I can get a copy.
