A Unix Shell from Your Web Browser

Here is an innovative way of using your web browser to run a fully functional unix shell. If you go to http://cb.vu you will actually be logging in to a shell terminal on a web server. You can define which commands "www" users will have access to run. For those of you from the Windows world this is like having your windows desktop available over a web browser without the need of any special clients

I believe this site actually launches a shell within a bunch of java scripts. A very nice use of a web browsers capabilities. This type of utility may have some good practical uses.

Here are some of my ideas:
1) Sharing desktop like utilities (word processor, spreadsheets, slides, etc...)
2) Sharing documents.
3) Great for training environments. You could set this up as an isolated sandbox that users could use to practice on.
4) Great for kiosks that only have web browser access (as is the case for many University settings)
5) Quick access to run commands to find out useful information like your PC's location, weather, or news.
6) Quick email access with apps like pine or elm.
7) Instant messaging or microblogging via command line
10) Setting up personal web pages. A simple example:
Echo "My Home Page" > hompage.html
Then browse to; http://cb.vu/homepage.html

A good utility and another example of access OS like utilities over the web. Goes back to one of our top 5 strategic technologies for 2008, the talks about the need for enhanced web apps that can replace the need for stand alone OS's.
